Evans Wins ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series Washington 125
Wenatchee, WA
(June 16,
2007): Garrett Evans (E. Wenatchee, WA) won his second race of the
season on the ARCA West Late Model Challenge Series. The first came
at Yakima Speedway and the second on Saturday June 16 at his home
track Wenatchee Valley’s Super Oval. Christian Roeder (Ephrata, WA)
was second followed by season point’s leader Gary Lewis (Bothell,
WA).
Evans grabbed
the lead on lap 8 of the 125 lap feature event. Wes Rhodes (Yelm,
WA) put a lot of pressure on Evans but a blown motor sent him to the
pits on lap 91. That moved Jeff Jefferson to second behind Evans.
Jefferson was closing in but on lap 115 a track bar mount broke
slowing him. Evans had one more challenge to withstand when Roeder
lined up behind Evans on a restart with 4-laps to go. Roeder said “I
was hoping I could get him (Evans) but had nothing for him at the
end.”
After the race
Evans stated “I have a good rhythm going right now. Brian (Quisinberry)
my crew chief has such a positive attitude it is rubbing off on me.”
He went on to say “I have an extra spark and I am back working on
the car for the first time since 1992. That has helped keep me to be
more focused. WVSO is tough track to win at and it is always
something special for me when I do.”
The point
leader Lewis’ night did not go as planned when an on track incident
early in the race sent him to pit road for repairs. Restarting the
race dead last, “I was upset when it happened I even was told I was
down a lap.” When they told me I was still on the lead lap I calmed
down and started to work back to the front.”
The quote of the
night went to the second place finisher Roeder said “It isn’t bad to
finish between a four time and a three time NASCAR champion.”
In the ARCA West
Truck Series main Steve Thompson (W. Richland, WA) took the lead
very early in the 35-lap main. Thompson cruised to the win, winning
by a half lap. Steve’s brother Rick (Prosser, WA) survived a late
race collision to finish second. Third place went to Kriss Clark
(Yakima, WA).
Next up for the
ARCA West Q-Racing Late Model Challenge Series is a 125-lap feature
at Montana Raceway Park, Kalispell Montana on Saturday June 30,
2007.
