Lewis Gives Himself a
Birthday Gift
Vernon,
B.C., Canada
(August 18, 2007): Gary Lewis of Bothell, WA made the trip over the border a
successful one. The first ever trip to Sun Valley Speedway in Vernon, British
Columbia, Canada, Lewis gained another won. The first year driver on the ARCA
West Late Model Challenge Series won his fourth of the season in eight starts.
The win on Lewis’ birthday was dramatic on the last two laps of the ‘Can Am
125’. Wes Rhodes of Olympia, WA got up to Lewis’ bumper. The two got and
entangled in traffic and ended up side by side. In turn three of the last lap on
the ‘D’ shaped 1/2-mile oval, Lewis was able to squeeze between two lap cars and
beat Rhodes by :0.298 seconds.
Lewis
upon exiting his car said “I can not believe the year I am having. I want to
thank the team for giving me such a great car.”
Third
place finisher Brent Harris of Wenatchee, WA had to survive an early race
incident with Garrett Evans of E. Wenatchee, WA. Harris was able to finish as
Evans was forced to the pits with a damaged right front ending his bid for a
fourth win this season.
The top
finishing Canadian was Ryan Fischer of Surrey, B.C. seventh followed by Tim
Elliott of Creston, B.C.
The
first ever AW LMCS race at the great Sun Valley Speedway was deemed a success by
all. Even the impending chance of rain held back. Twenty-six cars started the
first annual Lucas Oil Can-Am 125.
